Accountability and Transparency Report
This section is a new addition to our annual report but, in our opinion, a necessary one. Working with and for community is core to how Food First NL operates. As such, we need to be transparent in how we work and accountable to the people we serve. We constantly aim to improve our transparency. We look to our partners and community to hold us accountable along the way.

What We Did in 2023
Held group equity learning sessions about three goals in our new strategic framework: the right to food, climate justice, and Indigenous food sovereignty
Invited speakers with Lived Experience to help us understand equity topics, like disability, better
Discussed equity topics that overlap with the right to food (e.g. Canada's justice system, the labour movement)
Paired our monthly equity learning sessions with implementation discussions where we talked about how we can act on what we've learned and what it means for our work
Thought critically about incorporating care into our workplace and programs, including how to prevent burnout and prioritize rest
Discussed how we can support the labour movement and better working conditions for all, including our ongoing commitment to the Living Wage (with new regional wages)
What We Plan to Do in 2024
Our main priority for 2024 is securing funds to hire a consultant to improve our Equity Framework and update our Human Resources policy. Finding the right funder for this important work has been challenging. However, we are still committed and are integrating our plans into funding proposals. We hope to complete this work as soon as possible.
We will also build, adjust, and improve our previous work with intention and thoughtfulness — just as we did in 2023.
